At Irving Park Dentistry, we love treating children. We know that the gentle care we provide now helps create a positive attitude about caring for their oral health in the future. Our team is honored that you trust us to help manage your child’s precious oral health, and we work hard to earn that trust with every visit.
Visiting a dentist can be overwhelming, especially for a young child. Suddenly they’re in an unfamiliar setting, seeing new faces, and surrounded by lots of strange-looking machines. Dr. Zayzafoon and her associates have extensive experience in working with children and takes the time to get to know them and understand their unique needs. You can count on us to help your child feel safe and comfortable.
Your Child’s First Visit
We recommend that you schedule your child’s first visit around age two when all the baby teeth have emerged. These early visits are important because we want to do everything possible to protect these teeth from decay and damage. Preserving the health of baby teeth is critical because they play an essential role in the future development of your child’s permanent teeth.
We make it a point to involve both you and your child in the dental experience. The best chance we have for helping them achieve great oral health is when you both understand the importance of proper oral health habits.
Keeping Your Child’s Teeth Healthy
During these early visits, we focus on making sure that your child’s baby teeth stay healthy. These teeth hold a place for permanent teeth, making room for them when they emerge. If a baby tooth is lost prematurely, problems like crowding and misalignment can develop in the future.
Regular checkups are essential because we want to be able to find and correct any problems like cavities before they threaten your child’s oral health. Depending on your child’s needs, we may also recommend preventive treatments like application of fluoride and dental sealants. Both treatments protect your child’s teeth and get their oral health off to an excellent start.
We can also create custom-made athletic mouth guards to protect your child’s teeth during sports and other physical activities. Our convenient evening and Saturday hours allow you to make appointments that fit your family’s busy lifestyle. If your child has a dental emergency, we can usually see them the same day.
